280 kilometres East-South-East of Perth, Kulin is located in the upper great Southern Wheatbelt of Western Australia. A centre for the sheep and wheat community, the area was settled by pastorlists in 1905, and is now known for its attractive flowering gums and native orchids.
The Shire has many natural landmarks including large granite monoliths, and providing a contrast to the surrounding bushland - the 121 hectare Jilakin Lake.

Hansol PI are suppliers and processors of plantation grown timber products. The company was formed specifically to harvest, transport, chip, stockpile and load timber from Hansol's hardwood plantation estate in the south west region of Western Australia.
Hansol began growing Tasmanian Bluegums on cleared farm land in 1993 - a wood that's prized for its high basic density and pulp yields as well as its excellent paper making attributes.
Hansol is now building a multi million dollar chip mill in the Bunbury Port.
Aiming to lead the field in plantation timber processing the new mill is on target to begin its operations early next year.

The same community spirit that saw the establishment of the Kulin Bush Races came to the fore when in 1998, a national bank closed its branch in the town and left Kulin without a bank.
Realising that if people went out of town to do their banking they would also make other purchases to the detriment of the local businesses, a committee was formed to investigate the opening of a Community Bank branch.
The required capital was raised and, with pledges of support from local business people and farmers, the Kulin Community Bank Branch was opened on the 15th of October 1999 - the first Community Bank Branch to open in Western Australia.
The Community Bank is now a viable enterprise from both a profit point of view and from the support by the local residents.
